What a
great birthday party! October 17th was
our celebration of 25 years in business. Old and new
customers came out in droves to partake in our
scrumptious book birthday cake (thank you
Sabletine),
enter in our draw for free giveaways and enjoy a
great one-day-only discount. It was wonderful to
have so many former staff drop in to say hello and
walk down memory's lane while looking at photo
albums of author events from the last 25 years. And
of course, David Okum entertained children all
morning as they learned how to draw comics from the
local author and artist.

October 17 is
Independents' Day,
a day celebrating the importance of independent
bookstores. Independents Matter is a national
grassroots campaign with a community focus created
by Canadian Booksellers Association to celebrate the
independence and promote the benefits of shopping
locally at local bookstores. On October 17, 2009
independent booksellers all across the country will
celebrate Independents' Day. Local independent
booksellers know the tastes and interest of their
customers. We carry what you want to read.
Independent booksellers discover new writers and
recommend them-with passion-to Canadians. By a huge
margin, independent booksellers carry more Canadian-
published and regional titles than any other stores.
For Canadian towns and cities, independent
booksellers mean local jobs, local investment and
local culture. Nowhere is our rich and diverse
culture better represented than on the shelves of
independent booksellers.
