I have been so
pleased to see the Books & Babies program grow at Words Worth. I had a
wonderful time in the last year picking out wonderful baby books and
sharing them with gorgeous babies and excited parents.
We will be
continuing the program at Words Worth on rotating Friday
mornings at 10:30 am (the date may vary depending on
holidays etc, please follow the dates above). The program is for 30 to
45 minutes. I
discuss the importance of reading and provide a handout on choosing
books for your baby depending on their age. And then we get into the fun
stuff: reading books and singing songs!
Program is free of charge. Moms, Dads, Grandparents,
and older siblings are all welcome.

There are numerous
benefits to reading aloud to your baby. By reading with your child you
are helping to promote listening skills, increase their vocabulary,
develop their attention span and memory as well as stimulate their
imagination and senses. Parents can learn about finding the right books
at the right stage of their little one’s development, and how to make
reading an exciting experience.
By the time babies reach their first birthday they
will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language.
The more stories you read aloud, the more words your child will be
exposed to and the better he or she will be able to talk. Hearing words
helps to imprint them on a baby's brain. And kids who are read to during
their early years are more likely to learn to read at the right time.
Reading to your baby early
and often sets the stage for later reading success. According the 1985
American National Commission on Reading, reading aloud to children is
“the single most important intervention that parents can make in
ensuring their child’s later reading success.”
