Words Worth
Books and the The
Children’s Museum are presenting our newest family series; Books
& Babies. Join in the fun twice a month to learn about the
importance of reading to your new child and to hear stories, play games
and sing songs.
Classes are free at Words Worth
Books and included in admission at The Children’s Museum. Moms, Dads,
and Grandparents are all welcome to attend.
Admission to the
Children's Museum is $10.00 each and children under 3 are free. The
Books and Babies program is held in Tot room, one of the coolest rooms
in the museum. It has been carefully designed with little ones in mind:
the lights are soft, there is a padded floor, interactive wall displays
of bright colours and buttons to push, and tube lights full of bubbling
water.

There are numerous
benefits to reading aloud to your baby. By reading with your child you
are helping to promote listening skills, increase their vocabulary,
develop their attention span and memory as well as stimulate their
imagination and senses. Parents can learn about finding the right books
at the right stage of their little one’s development, and how to make
reading an exciting experience.
By the time babies reach their first birthday they
will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language.
The more stories you read aloud, the more words your child will be
exposed to and the better he or she will be able to talk. Hearing words
helps to imprint them on a baby's brain. And kids who are read to during
their early years are more likely to learn to read at the right time.
Reading to your baby early
and often sets the stage for later reading success. According the 1985
American National Commission on Reading, reading aloud to children is
“the single most important intervention that parents can make in
ensuring their child’s later reading success.”
