Carol Off: True Patriot Love at the KPL

  • KPL 85 Queen Street North Kitchener, ON, N2H 2H1 Canada (map)

Award-winning author and broadcast journalist Carol Off visits KPL to discuss her latest book, True Patriot Love, In conversation with Deborah Dundas.

Since she stepped down from CBC's As It Happens, Carol Off has been on the road talking to Canadians about their country and listening to their questions about its future.

In True Patriot Love: Reporting from the Frontlines of Canadian Sovereignty, she weaves these conversations with personal experiences to reveal, as she says, "How I learned to truly, patriotically, love this country." She shows us that through all our efforts - imperfect as they may be - we have forged a nation out of our compassionate, caring, and accommodating impulses, our desire to include and not to exclude, to welcome and encompass rather than reject and demonize. Canadians aren't saintly, she concludes, but we have mostly tried to be decent. And that is a rock worthy of building a national identity upon.

About the Author

CAROL OFF spent almost sixteen years co-hosting the multi-award-winning CBC radio program, As It Happens. Before that, she covered news and current affairs in Canada and around the world. Her first bestselling book, The Lion, The Fox and the Eagle: A Story of Generals and Justice in Yugoslavia and Rwanda, was published in 2000. Since then, she’s written three more award-winning works of narrative non-fiction, including, most recently, All We Leave Behind: A Reporter’s Journey into the Lives of Others, winner of the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction.
