The Registry Theatre is partnering with Lost & Found Theatre, The New Quarterly, Textile Magazine, and Words Worth Books to celebrate International Women's Day with a dynamic line-up of local women writers.
Kathleen Sheehy of Lost & Found Theatre, who curated the 2019 program, will once again emcee, introducing poets and writers reading from their work - a lively range of young people's literature, fiction, nonfiction, poetry and heartfelt storytelling. Susan Scott of The New Quarterly is also keen to showcase local talent. "The arts are life-affirming," Scott says. "Who better to turn to in troubled times than inspired creators who also happen to be coworkers, neighbours, sisters, friends?"
Waterloo Region is home to some of Canada's finest writers. The Sunday, March 8th International Women's Day line-up is a who's who of award winners and up-and-coming talents, including Lamees Al Ethari, Hiba Adel El Miari, Nicole Smith, Emily Urquhart, Governor-General's Award winner Erin Bow, CBC Poetry Prize finalist Ashley Hynd, and Heather Smith, winner of the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award.
Sharing the spotlight are Maha Eid, Hamideh Eltejaei, Dani Guse and Olya Barmina Shields of the acclaimed X Page Project - an enriching local venture for immigrant, and refugee women that taps the power of the pen.
Special guest singer-songwriter Joni NehRita will perform some of her original songs from her forthcoming CD Love and Protest.
Words Worth will be on hand selling books by great women writers. Come on out!
