Special Saturday Stories with Delano Brown

Join us for a special storytime with children’s author Delano Brown as he reads his picture book, My Neighborhood. The storytime will be followed by hands-on activities and creative crafts.

This is a drop-in event for families with children of all ages.

About the Author

Jamaican-born Canadian author Delano Brown is a Registered Early Childhood Educator by day, working in the region of Simcoe County. He is a fresh face on the Canadian writing scene; his lyrically poetic style comes out in his debut picture book, titled My Neighborhood, Fall of 2026.  He is passionate about being an understanding voice to each child who wants to see a reflection of themselves on the pages of a book.

Working in the educational arena, Delano continues to pen many relatable fiction stories that speak to student life and the joys, mistakes, and misunderstood moments of childhood. His current undertaking, titled School Up North, illustrated by Frank Morrison, captures the world of hot lunches, recess pranks, and community on a page that brings to life a voice displaying wit, zeal, and honesty.

When time permits, you can find Delano behind the lens of his camera or deep in his comic collection.

About My Neighborhood

A vibrant and lyrical picture book that follows two brothers on a journey through their inner-city neighborhood, showing off the beauty and life lessons to be found within.

Follow a young boy as he explores his neighborhood hand-in-hand with his older brother, Trevor. They share handshakes on the sidewalk, laughter at the skate park, wisdom at the chess tables, rhythm in the dance circle, and kindness at the corner store. With each step, this lyrical picture book radiates the sounds, gestures, and bonds that make a neighborhood more than just a place to live–that make it a home.
